Healing Waters

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled veterans through fly fishing. We teach fly-fishing basics: equipment, casting, fly tying, and then we take the vets fishing (the best part).

God’s Work Our Hands

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

Heat Respite: During the summer we collect cases of bottled water and take them to Grace Lutheran in downtown Phoenix for their Heat Respite program.

Grace Lutheran is part of Maricopa county’s Heat Relief Network and provides more than hydration, respite, and wellness checks during the summer months for those experiencing homelessness. Besides addressing physical needs, Grace Lutheran aspires to reach out to peoples’ fullness as human beings.

Habitat for Humanity: We are part of a coalition of churches who participate in building homes with Habitat for Humanity. We brought and served lunch for 2 work crews on one of the build days in Tempe.

Lunch was soooo good volunteers from the entire site, working on other homes in the area, came to enjoy the abundant food!

Lutheran World Relief School Bags: We collected supplies for over 200 school bags. Each bag included notebooks, pens, wooden rulers, pencil sharpeners, pencils, scissors, crayons, and erasers. During worship, we created an assembly line, packed everything into bags, and then blessed the filled bags.

A crew packed the blessed filled school bags into boxes to ship to Lutheran World Relief who sent the bags around the world. These simple school bags provide a means for children to attend school who otherwise would not be able to due to lack of school supplies.

Pastor Brian Cain makes learning about the Lord fun and easy to understand. Absolutely love going to church at Spirit of Joy. The 10:30am service is filled with great people and just an all-around amazing experience. Recommend it to anybody.
