Youth Ministry

It is FUN to be Young at Spirit of Joy!

Spirit of Joy’s Youth Ministry Program is designed for Jr. High and Sr. High school students (Grades 7 through 12). The program contains many types of events including Confirmation classes, small group Bible study, service events, fundraisers, and fellowship events. There is always something new and exciting happening with the youth at Spirit of Joy. Here’s a highlight of some of our regular events and programs

Wednesday Night (Happy Time)

Our weekly meeting is affectionately called, “Happy Time.” During our meetings, we have games and activities, small group Bible studies, group prayer, and much more. Our weekly meetings serve as the backbone of our Youth Ministry Program. We meet each Wednesday during the school year at 6:30 p.m.

At Spirit of Joy, Confirmation is carried out a little differently. We do not have a set date for a student to finish his or her curriculum and be confirmed. For our students, Confirmation is not finishing two years of course work, then graduating. Confirmation is a step up into the congregation as an active, adult member. Our youth are confirmed when they demonstrate that they own their faith for themselves.

Youth Praise Band

Our students lead worship once a month during the school year. Practice is held at 8 p.m., each Wednesday, following our Youth Ministry (Happy Time) gatherings.

The Youth Ministry group holds several fundraisers each year. They include the Palm Sunday Breakfast, Prom Night, Thanksgiving Pie Bake, Battery Sales, and Super Bowl Sub Sandwich sales. The fundraisers support the retreats and activities of the Youth Ministry Program. Retreats include Youth Quake, Tirosh, and District and National Youth Gatherings.

Service Events

A developing focus for our young adults is service in the community. We have participated in the Rotary River Rally where we raced a cardboard boat on Tempe Town Lake. Proceeds for this event benefited Tempe Children’s Charities. We have also helped clean up a Valley neighborhood for Save the Family and helped with yard work and cleaning here at our church facility.
