Diakonia Class: Practical Ministry III: To Communicate the Gospel
Tuesdays, May 1 – May 29, 2018, 6:00 – 9:00 PM
Instructor: Deacon Janice Zimbelman
Course Description: This class will explore the role of the parish community of Word and Sacraments as the context for ministry, the source from which the Christian witness flows. Emphasis will be on 21st Century culture and the current views of church in the world. The focus of this course is to look at opportunities within the parish for communicating the gospel (Bible studies, teaching, youth ministries, etc) as well as in the community (e.g. online). Underlying the course is the perspective of each student in developing diaconal self-understanding. We will explore together tools to explore local community contexts and ways to creatively share the Gospel within those contexts and the 21st Century culture. Students will share personal ministry experiences of how they uniquely communicate the gospel in their lives, and reflect on them both Biblically and theologically.
