Leadership at SOJ
Rev. Brian W. Cain
“I am passionate about parish ministry and see myself as the vessel or tool that God has called to lead and empower God’s people through proclaiming God’s word, celebrating Sacraments and teaching. It is a great privilege to be a leader in the church that requires continual, prayerful discernment of God’s leading. I am truly excited to explore, love and lead through the truth and promise that the Gospel proclaims for all people!”
I am happy to be a recent new member of Spirit of Joy and have enjoyed getting to know my new SOJ family these past few months! Originally Canadian, Minnesota was my home for many years, where I married my high school sweetheart and started a family. We all moved to Arizona over 30 years ago and have thrived here. My husband and I have three married children and eight grandchildren – they are all a source of great joy for us.
Spirit of Joy is a fantastic spiritual “home base” and I enjoy supporting all the individuals and ministries here at SOJ that enrich our lives so much. God is Good!

Where did you grow up?: Chicago
What is your favorite thing about the Gilbert community?: I love the town and the rural feel it has.
Post educational professional experiences: I graduated from DePaul University in Chicago with a degree in Choral Music Education. I took a dare from a friend to come out to Arizona State University and start my graduate studies in choral conducting. After I graduated from ASU, I took a job teaching middle school music in Tempe. I went back to school to work on my second Masters in Counseling and have been doing that ever since.

Who is your mentor or inspiration?: My mentor would have to be my high school choir teacher, Omar Reese. My inspiration has to be my father. He is truly amazing.
